Satu Dalnell

Independent language teacher @Language Compass

I’m Satu Dalnell, a qualified language teacher from Finland. I offer private English, French and Finnish lessons, online or in person, in the area around Lausanne and Morges.

Most of my students want to learn a language to use at work or with family, and often seek my help with problems such as:
· Lack of speaking practice, whether in group classes or self-study
· Uneven skills (e.g. understands well but speaking feels difficult)
· Not knowing their current level
· Difficulty improving without a clear study plan
· Wanting to refresh a language they’ve lost over time
· Preparing for a language exam

If any of these apply to you, my fully personalised lessons can help!

Services

Beginner (A0-A2)
All languages

If you are starting from scratch, or clearly need more practice, we will concentrate on the basics. While improving all four skills (speaking, reading, listening, writing) is important, we will especially concentrate on listening and speaking from early on. Vocabulary is also very important at this stage.

We will use a range of materials, not only a textbook: interactive exercises, videos, and easy articles. I can give you homework, and will guide you to the best resources and methods to continue studying on your own, so that you progress faster and we can concentrate on speaking during the lessons.

Intermediate (B1-B2)
All languages

If you are already conversational or can understand short texts, we will concentrate on making your oral expression smoother and understanding texts better by learning more vocabulary and intermediate grammar.

If you want to pass a language exam, such as the Cambridge exam, we will study things that come up in those exams, as well as exam techniques.

If you are learning English for work, we will specifically study work-related English, but also for the conversations that happen during the breaks!

Advanced (B2-C1)
All languages

Congratulations on making it this far — this is where the fun really begins! At B2+ level we will be able to use a variety of authentic texts and videos as learning material.

If you feel like you are stuck at the intermediate level forever, I know some methods specifically for advanced learners that you can use to improve your proficiency.

Finnish teacher @Finest Future Oy

June 2022 - January 2024

I had the pleasure of teaching Finnish to motivated internationals hoping to move to Finland for almost two years. I had two 10-month courses for adults from level A0 to B1, as well as some courses teaching nurses and high schoolers. I gained extremely valuable online teaching experience and I probably know about each and every Finnish online learning resource by now!

Online

I started teaching languages online right after completing my teaching practice. Despite being inexperienced at the time, I put a lot of effort into professional development and received excellent feedback for my teaching.

I taught not only French, but also health education, religion and history in French to French emphasis classes, grades 7-9. This combination of subjects was extremely broad and challenging, but certainly gave me some exceptional teaching experience that I’m always happy to talk more about if you are interested in the Finnish school system!
